Inclined elevator

The Flaine ski resort is part of the Grand Massif ski area in Haute-Savoie, which features 139 slopes and 62 ski lifts. The Flaine resort alone boasts 64 pistes and 24 lifts.

At altitudes ranging from 1,580 to 1,800 meters, free shuttle buses connect the various neighborhoods, and two inclined elevators have been installed to provide access between the resort’s two main levels: Flaine Forum and Flaine Foret.

The elevation difference between the two neighborhoods is 70 meters, and because the cliff is convex, a straight route would have required extensive construction work. An articulated gondola—designed as an inclined elevator that follows the curve of the cliff and can carry up to 25 people—was therefore installed.
