Retrofit of the Platform Screen Doors on Line B of the Toulouse Metro: A Challenge Met with Tisséo Voyageurs

Portalp Railway unveils a behind-the-scenes look at the renovation project for the platform screen doors on Line B of the Toulouse Metro in a new video. This ambitious project modernized the equipment and ensured the safety of over 400,000 daily passengers. To achieve this, Tisséo Voyageurs turned to Portalp Railway's expertise for the retrofit and maintenance of the platform screen doors at the 7 stations involved.

Key Technical and Logistical Challenges

Pierre Testa, Head of the Energy and Track Department at Tisséo Voyageurs, discusses the main challenges of the operation. Among the stringent requirements of the project, he highlights several technical and organizational constraints:

  • Work in a constrained railway environment: The proximity to the tracks and the need to ensure passenger safety required meticulous management of the operations.
  • Work exclusively at night: To avoid disrupting the metro's regular schedule, the teams worked solely during the night.
  • Strict adherence to maintenance methodologies: The work had to follow Tisséo Voyageurs' specific maintenance procedures to maintain the integrity of the network and the safety of passengers.
  • Ensuring the availability of the renovated platform screen doors by 5:00 AM: Every morning, the renovated doors had to be fully operational to welcome the first passengers.

A successful collaboration between Tisséo Voyageurs and Portalp Railway

To meet these challenges, Tisséo Voyageurs chose Portalp Railway for its strong expertise in the maintenance and retrofit of railway platform screen doors. According to Pierre Testa, the Portalp Railway team was able to perfectly adapt to Tisséo Voyageurs' requirements, ensuring the smooth progress of the work while respecting safety and reliability commitments.

"The partnership with Portalp Railway was extremely effective. Their ability to integrate our procedures and work under challenging conditions allowed us to complete this operation within the scheduled timeframe."
